Four in a Row
Drop discs to connect four in a row. Play against the AI.
FAQ
This is a four-in-a-row game with similar gameplay to the classic Connect Four board game. Drop discs into columns to line up four in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
The first player has a significant advantage. With perfect play, the first player always wins by playing in the center column first. The game was computationally solved in 1988 by Victor Allis.
The center column is the strongest opening. It gives the most options for connecting four in any direction and forces the opponent to play defensively from the start.
About this test
Play four-in-a-row against the AI. Drop colored discs into a vertical grid and try to connect four in a row before your opponent does.
How It Works
Players alternate dropping discs into a 7-column, 6-row grid. Discs fall to the lowest available row. Connect four discs horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to win.
Strategy
Control the center column and lower rows. Build threats in multiple directions simultaneously. Force your opponent to block one threat while you complete another.
Tips
- Always play center if available
- Build horizontal and diagonal threats simultaneously
- Count the rows โ odd rows favor the first player, even rows favor the second
