Object Tracking

Some balls will flash to mark them as targets. After they stop flashing, all balls start moving. Track the targets, then click them when they stop.

FAQ
What is multiple object tracking?

Multiple object tracking (MOT) tests your ability to mentally follow several moving objects among identical distractors. It measures attentional capacity and visual tracking ability.

What is the average tracking capacity?

Most adults can reliably track 3-4 objects simultaneously. Athletes and gamers often track 5-6. The theoretical upper limit appears to be around 8 objects.

Is this related to sports performance?

Yes. Multiple object tracking correlates with sports performance, particularly in team sports where players must track teammates, opponents, and the ball simultaneously.

About this test

The object tracking test measures your visual attention capacity โ€” how many moving objects you can mentally follow at once among identical distractors.

How It Works

Several objects are highlighted as targets, then all objects become identical and begin moving. Track the original targets through their movements and identify them when they stop.

Attentional Capacity

Research by Zenon Pylyshyn introduced the FINST theory โ€” the brain has a limited number of spatial indexes that can track objects independently. Most people have 3-5 available indexes.

Tips

  • Spread your attention broadly rather than focusing on one target
  • Use peripheral vision to track targets at the edges
  • Try grouping nearby targets into a virtual shape
